Antivirus & Virus Removal

No Antivirus software is perfect. There is no magic button to keep you safe, and anyone who says otherwise is lying to you. What’s even worse, there isn’t a lot of stability in the antivirus software market. What’s good today could be bad tomorrow, the most recommended antivirus options are constantly changing and it’s hard to keep up. They tend to range from good to decent, and some are just downright awful. Some sell your personal data for profit, and some even infect your computer!

As of July 2020, there are currently 4 antivirus programs I would recommend. In no particular order, they are:

  • Bitdefender
  • Kaspersky
  • ESET
  • Webroot

I recommend running the FREE version of Malwarebytes (NOT paid or trial) in conjunction with a single antivirus software of your choice. Do not run more than one antivirus software at a time!

Malwarebytes is a free program designed to target PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) like browser toolbars and extensions that present themselves as coupon finders to track you, or rootkits that disguise themselves as core programs of the operating system. It’s available for Windows as well as macOS, and it is an essential tool to have. The best part? It’s free. I also install Malwarebytes as part of my computer Tune-Up service.
